Our Angora Goats |
As the new millennium opened, it was decided that Daisy's Hill Farm would take a new direction as well, and raise Angora goats for their fleece. A search on the internet revealed that the Hat Creek Company of SueAnn and Jene Nissen in Marshall, N.C. was one of the top Angora farms in the nation. The Nissens initially procured their top quality stock foundation over two decades ago from the epitome of Angora breeding formed by the Haby, Lockhart, Ross & Speck (HLRS) partnership in Texas. In 1997, the Nissens began adding 100% South African bloodlines to their original champion bucks and does derived from superb Lockhart genetics. The result was a vigorous hybrid breed that contained the best of both worlds - anatomy and physiology more conducive for the breeding while producing high yielding mohair free from kemp. Our current herd of Angora goats and their beautiful fleece are the result of this unique mix. We won our first ribbons for the kid buck junior class at the 10th Annual Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF) convention in Asheville, NC in October 2003. |
Besides using a prime Nissen buck for mating in 2003, we also bred some of our does with a prize-winning Speck buck from Texas. |
Our mentors, the Nissens, have also introduced us to a wonderful product, Chaffhaye, that serves both as feed and hay. Our goats love this nutritious feed, and have greatly benefited by it, as indicated by their health, vigor, and the beauty of their fleece. If you are interested in either Chaffhaye or fleece, please contact us. |
